I made my thoughts known on this project in December and commented against the proposals on the planning application.
The money being spent on this sculpture could be invested elsewhere in our borough.
See the planning application online.
I object to the proposal outlined in the planning application. Whilst it is applaudable CCTV is proposed to be upgraded, the cost publicised by the Council for the installation of a steel elephant sculpture on the roundabout is simply not justified.
Following completion, the sculpture could cause a distraction to motorists using this busy highway, already traffic controlled by lights due to the number of pedestrians that frequent the area.
A simpler and more financially beneficial way to ‘fix the link’ must be sought.
