Today I have been out with fellow Parish Councillor John Spademan putting up the poppies around Stanway this morning.

The large poppies have been placed on street lamps around Stanway to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.

Marking the centenary anniversary of the Great War, the Royal British Legion launched a 100 day ‘Thank You’ movement to raise awareness and allow people to say Thank You through friends, community or place of work, or simply as an individual.

The movement runs until Armistice Day on Sunday 11th November.

As part of the ‘Thank You’ movement, the 40cm poppies have been placed around the village by volunteers from Stanway Parish Council, a ‘Thank You’ to the many Stanway men and women who gave their lives in service.

Lest we forget.
